New data center for VPS

Dear all, a new rack has been added to London Redbus data center in order to provide Virtual Private Servers. Below you will find a brief overview of our network topology on Redbus. Please be aware that the configuration given below affect only customers with VPS services.

Infrastructure

Routing
Core routing is performed by Juniper MX240s configured in a fully redundant pair with dual power supplies. All services are connected to the network at 1Gbps. We use 5 upstream providers (Tiscali, Telia, NTT/Verio, Interoute and Cogent) provided by Gyron Internet Ltd.

Switches
Cisco Catalyst 3750G’s in a StackWise configuration allow us to bond your servers ethernet connection across 2 independent switches. Should we need to perform an upgrade on one of these switches – or if one of these switches fails – your connectivity continues regardless.

Using a 4-Gbps stack interconnect, Cisco StackWise technology is designed to respond to network changes of all kinds while maintaining consistent high network performance. Cisco StackWise technology unites up to nine Catalyst 3750 switches into a single logical unit via special stack interconnect cables. The stack behaves as a single unit managed by a master switch elected from one of the member switches. Its advanced failover mechanisms create the highest levels of stackable resiliency for hardware and software reliability.

Security
Our Self-Defending network is built around Cisco ASA 5540 Series Adaptive Security Appliances, converging firewall, IPS, network anti-virus and VPN services. As a key component of our network, they provide proactive threat mitigation that stops attacks before they spread through the network, controls network activity and application traffic.

Power
We employ dual APC master switches to every server – ensuring consistant power without compromise. APC Switched Rack Power Distribution Units (PDUs) are premium solutions to many of the power management problems seen in today’s IT environments. Some of the problems are unauthorized use of power outlets, locked-up equipment, in-rush current, overloaded circuits, and the need of remote access to power outlets in the rack. The Switched Rack PDUs address these problems through individual outlet control, power on and off delays, current monitoring, alarm thresholds, and network management. Individual outlet control allows users to turn outlets on, turn outlets off, or recycle power to equipment, which can reboot locked-up equipment and avoid unauthorized use of outlets. Power delays allow users to determine the order in which equipment is powered up or down. Utilizing the power delay feature will avoid in-rush current, which can cause overloads. Monitoring the current draw at the rack level is key to avoiding downtime due to overloaded circuits. The Switched Rack PDUs provide an aggregate current draw, which can be viewed remotely or locally, via digital display. In addition, alarms will be generated based on user-defined thresholds to alert users of potential circuit overloads.
